Pleckgate opened their doors to students of the future where they enjoyed a spell of reading, tried their hand at science experiments and also solved English and maths puzzles.
Pleckgate, the Lancashire Telegraph’s Secondary School of the Year, was voted in the top five schools nationally, based on similar schools, after their best ever GCSE results in 2015 and they excelled again in last month’s exams as Pleckgate achieved significantly above national averages again with 74% of students making at least expected progress and 48% making better than expected of progress in mathematics, and 76% of students made at least expected progress and 38% made better than expected progress in English.
Current Year Six pupils spent their time having a look around the thriving school, which is again seeing significant growth in student numbers.
Enthusiastic Lammack pupil Ismaeel Patel had a go at chemistry experiments with teacher Mr Mohmed while Sacred Heart student Ruhina Vaid examined at human cells through a microscope.
Pleckgate’s sport ambassador Mahek Shah showed Ruhan Fatimah, from Holy Souls, how to do a standing long jump while Dawood Naveed from St James’ Primary School got tips on table tennis.
Pleckgate’s Year Eight student Uzair Rehman built a lego digger and was using the BBC’s Micro:Bits programme to make it move and dig – showing it off to the prospective student in the school’s Business and Computer Science Department.
The Nadat family, mum Yumna, dad Mohammed and children Rayyan and Daniyal both met Pleckgate’s Head Teacher Mr Cocker as Pleckgate expect a bumper entry for next year’s Year Sevens.
