Dear Parents/Carers,

As I am sure you are aware the school’s recent very positive Ofsted inspection has meant that we are no longer in Special Measures.

When a school is placed in Special Measures there is the presumption from the Government that it will become an Academy as this is seen as the best way to secure rapid progress for all students.

As Pleckgate is no longer in this position we can now look at ways in which we can best rapidly improve achievement for all students and access the appropriate support to enable us to do this.

As a result the school’s Interim Executive Board, after careful and due diligence, has taken the decision that the parents and pupils of Pleckgate High School, alongside the wider served community, would be well served by becoming an integral part of a Local Academy Trust. Such a Trust would be aware, and fully supportive of, the work already done in moving the school forward and seek to support and develop this further.

A Local Trust supported by and working in partnership with stakeholders could achieve the very best outcomes for our students. Therefore the IEB has decided to undertake a full consultation, with parents, as part of the process of moving to academy status, if the outcome of this consultation is supportive. The preferred Local sponsor would be the Education Partnership Trust.

During this process the school’s focus will continue to be on the students within our care.

I will contact you in due course to inform you of any meetings and other operational issues regarding this process but felt if important that you are made aware of the initial decision taken by the Interim Executive Board as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully

John Banks

IEB Chair
