FUTURE engineers got hands on practical experience when North West Electrical visited at Pleckgate.
The Engineering Day was held to show students the diverse range of jobs on offer and apprenticeship opportunities
Year 8 students learnt were introduced to a series of challenges over the day.
Head of Year 8 Miss Hartley said: “The company delivered a talk about engineering and the many routes that can be taken to get into the career.
“Then there were a series of activities. One of the exercises was to find a practical solution to the problem of putting underground cables through a playground. They had to work out the problems and also seek solutions.
“In another the students had to use computer program to build a bridge to take a weight and that had to be done to a budget.
“Another had a jigsaw type puzzle and one was a robotic challenge.”
Year 8 student Mustafa excelled in designing the robot.
He said: “We had to decide what instrument would be best to add to the robot to carry out a task. We picked the scoop and managed to complete the task in just 10 seconds, which was faster than anyone else.”
